
Final day unites devotees, tourists, and families in a vibrant tribute to Goa’s cultural heritage and nature

Marcel, 7 July 2025 — The spirited Chikhal Kalo 2025 Festival came to a grand finale today at Sri Devki Krishna Temple, Marcel, where hundreds of devotees, tourists, youth, and families gathered for the much-anticipated mud play, marking a heartfelt celebration of faith, heritage, and nature.

Held on Dwadashi, the festival’s concluding day overflowed with traditional games, devotional singing, and the iconic mud immersion ritual, symbolizing Lord Krishna’s playful leela with the Earth. The temple grounds came alive with spirited rounds of chendu fali, kushti, and other traditional mud games, creating moments of laughter and togetherness. Excitement peaked with the exhilarating dahi handi, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd, reinforcing the festival’s timeless themes of devotion, unity, and gratitude for the monsoon.

Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, who actively took part in the festivities, shared,
> “This is our lok parampara, and it’s time we take it to the world. Chikhal Kalo celebrates our deep connection to the soil, our traditions, and our community spirit. With festivals like these, we’re promoting ‘Goa Beyond Beaches’ and creating economic opportunities for our local communities. The overwhelming response over the past three years shows the growing importance of preserving and sharing such unique cultural experiences.”

This year’s festival also featured a Photography and Reel Making Competition, inviting participants to creatively capture the vibrant essence of Chikhal Kalo 2025. Entries beautifully showcased the festival’s playfulness, colors, and emotions, bringing new perspectives to Goa’s timeless traditions.
The three-day celebration blended spirituality, music, culture, and community:
Day 1 resonated with soulful Abhang and Kirtan recitals.
Day 2, Ashadhi Ekadashi, featured devotional Bhajan performances.
Day 3 culminated in the joyous mud rituals, embodying Goa’s spiritual and cultural richness.
