New data from 11,700+ corporate employees highlights early heart risk, lifestyle factors, and a promising improvement in women’s cardiac health profile
National, June 30, 2025: MediBuddy, India’s leading digital healthcare platform, has released a comprehensive study revealing that approximately 8.1% of urban corporate employees exhibit moderate to high cardiac risk, with the 31–40 age group facing the greatest vulnerability. The findings are drawn from cardiac risk stratification and diagnostic data on 11,779 individuals — 9,404 males and 2,370 females — collected between April 2024 and March 2025.
While 91.9% of corporate employees were identified as low cardiac risk, 2.82% fell into the moderate risk category. Comparatively, an ICMR-led national study reported only 84.9% of adults at low risk and 14.4% at moderate risk, underscoring the potential positive impact of structured employee wellness programs in reducing heart disease risk within the corporate sector.
Early Cardiac Risk Markers in Younger Professionals
The 31–40 age group, forming the study’s largest cohort, showed that 10% of individuals were at moderate or high cardiac risk — higher than the 8% observed among those aged 41–50. These findings highlight concerning early markers of cardiovascular disease, often driven by lifestyle, dietary habits, and workplace stress.
Encouraging Trends Among Urban Corporate Women
A gender-specific analysis revealed that only 2.06% of screened women fell into the high-risk category, compared with 10% in broader national trends. This suggests improved health awareness and the growing impact of employer-supported wellness initiatives among female professionals. Meanwhile, men continued to represent the majority of high-risk cases at nearly 80%.
Lipid Imbalances Common Across Workforce
Routine diagnostic data also showed that 45% of employees had elevated triglycerides, 30% had an unhealthy total lipid ratio, and 11% had high LDL levels — all key risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
“Cardiovascular risk among young and middle-aged professionals is a pressing but often overlooked issue,” said Dr. Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Medical Operations at MediBuddy. “Our data demonstrates the early onset of cardiac risk, especially in the 31–40 age group. Fortunately, these risks are largely modifiable through timely lifestyle changes, clinical follow-ups, and medical interventions.”
