
DITE&C initiative empowers students with digital tools for higher education and future careers
Panaji, Goa – August 25, 2025: The Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C), Government of Goa, has distributed laptops to 232 meritorious students from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities under its Free Laptop Distribution Scheme for the academic years 2023-24 and 2024-25. The beneficiaries include 121 students from 2023-24 and 111 students from 2024-25.
Implemented through the Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd. (ITG), the scheme recognizes academic excellence and promotes equal opportunities in digital learning. By equipping students with laptops, the initiative aims to support higher education, enhance digital skills, and prepare young learners for future career opportunities.
The distribution ceremony, held at ESG, Panaji, was presided over by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and attended by Hon’ble Minister for IT, Electronics & Communications Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Hon’ble MLA & ITG Chairman Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, DITE&C Director Shri Kabir Shirgaonkar, ITG Managing Director Shri Praveen Volvotkar, DITE&C Joint Director Dr. Milind Sakhardande, and CEO of Startup and IT Promotion Cell Shri D.S. Prashant.
Highlighting the role of technology in shaping the future, Minister Rohan A. Khaunte said:
> “Youth of today have the power to create an impact through technology, not just for Goa but for the entire nation. Through initiatives like IT Knowledge Centres and the Goa AI Mission 2027, we are preparing our youth to be innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders of tomorrow. I encourage students to use these tools to learn continuously and build a brighter future for themselves and the state.”
Since its inception in 2022, the Free Laptop Distribution Scheme has already benefited over 450 students, enabling them to access digital resources and improve their learning outcomes.
Director Shri Kabir Shirgaonkar added:
> “Today, we are not just distributing laptops, but celebrating the determination, talent, and aspirations of young students. These tools will help them succeed in an increasingly digital world.”
