Report highlights sharp rise in lifestyle-related health risks among India’s working professionals, calling for urgent corporate wellness interventions.
National, August 25, 2025: MediBuddy, India’s largest digital healthcare platform, has released new corporate health screening data that points to a concerning year-on-year rise in diabetes and pre-diabetes among India’s workforce. The findings underline the urgent need for early intervention and targeted wellness programmes to reduce long-term health and financial risks.
Between August 2023 and July 2024, 7.89% of employees screened were diabetic and 19.38% were pre-diabetic. In the following year (August 2024–July 2025), these figures rose to 8.85% and 24.40%, respectively. The burden was highest among employees aged 31–50, but younger professionals in the 20–30 age bracket also recorded a notable increase.
The study also revealed gender disparities. Diabetes in men increased from 6.76% to 7.43%, while pre-diabetes climbed from 14.64% to 18.11%. Among women, diabetes rose from 1.13% to 1.42%, and pre-diabetes from 4.74% to 6.29%.
“The rising prevalence of diabetes and pre-diabetes, especially among working-age adults, is a wake-up call for corporate India. Beyond personal health, unmanaged diabetes is one of the biggest contributors to hospital admissions, prolonged recovery, and escalating inpatient costs. Regular screenings, sustained disease-management, and preventive lifestyle programmes can significantly lower these risks. Employers have both an opportunity and a responsibility to integrate preventive healthcare into workplace wellness strategies,” said Dr. Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Medical Operations, MediBuddy.
With diabetes progression often leading to higher inpatient care and hospitalisation expenses, the study emphasises that preventive healthcare is not only essential for employee well-being but also critical for controlling corporate healthcare and insurance costs.
