
Nearly 200 volunteers, 200 PET bins, and 10 helpdesks mobilized to promote responsible waste management during Puri event

MUMBAI/NEW DELHI | July 24, 2025 – The Coca-Cola India Foundation, Anandana, has released a powerful video recap of its Maidaan Saaf campaign, highlighting the initiative’s efforts to promote responsible plastic waste collection, segregation, and recycling during large-scale public events in Puri, Odisha.
Conducted in collaboration with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, Puri Municipality, District Administration Puri, Odisha Development Management Programme (ODMP), and the Y4D Foundation, the campaign deployed:
200 volunteers to drive on-ground awareness
200 PET collection bins along key Yatra routes
10 helpdesks and kiosks to guide citizens on proper waste disposal
The video features voices from Coca-Cola India, ODMP, Y4D Foundation, and Safai Sathis (waste workers), underscoring how collective action can create lasting environmental impact.
Driving Change Through Collective Responsibility
> “The recent Puri event brought immense scale—and the responsibility to manage its impact with care,” said Saloni Goel, Senior Director – ESG Value Creation & Commercialization, Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia
.“Every element of this initiative was aligned with the city’s needs and built on the principle of collective action. This was an opportunity to contribute to a larger purpose and to do it with intent.”
Pradeep Kumar, Vice-Chairman, ODMP, emphasized how the initiative created economic opportunities for Safai Sathis, who gained employment during the event.
Dr. Praful Nikam, President, Y4D Foundation, added,
> “This awareness initiative went beyond speeches or pamphlets—we implemented a working mechanism on the ground. Through daily waste collection, cleanliness drives, and public engagement, we created a sustainable and impactful system.”
Safai Saathi Shantilika Pradhan shared a grassroots perspective:
> “When we cleaned up the waste, others noticed and followed. People saw us using the dustbins, which motivated them to do the same. That’s how change began—by setting an example.”
