New centres to offer free IT training, drone pilot programs, and career-focused skilling under state’s inclusive digital policy
Porvorim, August 8, 2025: The Government of Goa has expanded its Information Technology Knowledge Centre (ITKC) network under the ST/SC Empowerment through ICT Scheme, aiming to prepare local youth for the state’s evolving technology-driven job market.
The initiative was officially launched at PAC Hall Secretariat by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (ITE&C) Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, alongside senior officials including Hon’ble Chairman of Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd., Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, Secretary of DITE&C Shri Sanjeev Ahuja, Director of DITE&C Shri Kabir Shirgaonkar, and Managing Director of ITG Shri Praveen Volvotkar.
Dr. Sawant highlighted the state’s mission to deepen digital inclusion, stating, “We aim to expand ITKCs by offering free IT courses to SC and ST beneficiaries, creating pathways for self-employment and digital empowerment across Goa.”
New ITKC locations will open in Bardez, Ponda, Salcete, Sanguem, Quepem, and Canacona, operated by Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd. These centres, which currently offer 33 courses, will now introduce advanced programs in areas such as computer literacy, ethical hacking, 3D design, Internet of Things (IoT), cyber safety for women, robotics, and project management.
Shri Rohan A. Khaunte noted that the focus extends beyond basic literacy to long-term career readiness, with structured skilling opportunities for SC/ST youth. He also announced plans to distribute free laptops to deserving candidates from economically weaker sections (EWS) and OBC backgrounds pursuing engineering in Goa.
Additionally, Goa will pioneer drone pilot training under the national “Drone Didi” scheme, equipping women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) with advanced drones and skills to foster micro-entrepreneurship and grassroots innovation.
These initiatives form a core part of the state’s citizen-first digital policy, designed to ensure inclusive growth, equal opportunities, and the development of a future-ready talent pool.
