The weekly sessions at ApeCity, Navi Mumbai, aim to educate families about the structure, discipline, and opportunities within India’s evolving esports ecosystem
Mumbai, July 14, 2025: In a pioneering move to demystify the world of esports for Indian families, CyberPowerPC India, a global leader in custom gaming PCs, has launched a special initiative titled the ‘Esports Masterclass’ series. Held at ApeCity, Navi Mumbai, the series is designed to foster understanding between young gamers and their parents, highlighting the structure, discipline, and career opportunities emerging within the country’s growing esports landscape.
Each masterclass features insights from top esports athletes, content creators, and industry experts, aiming to open up dialogue between generations and dispel common myths surrounding gaming. The first session brought together Vishal Parekh, Chief Operating Officer of CyberPowerPC India, alongside Jai Shah and Yash Bhanushali, co-founders of esports organization Orangutan and ApeCity. Together, they guided over 30 parents and young enthusiasts through the intricacies of India’s esports ecosystem—touching upon career pathways, educational balance, and the vital role of family support.
The second session, titled ‘The Journey of Becoming an Esports Athlete’, featured two of India’s leading players, Arman (Aaru) and Ankit Shukla (Akop). They offered an unfiltered look into the emotional, mental, and physical demands of competitive gaming—covering everything from practice schedules to public scrutiny and burnout. Their personal narratives provided aspiring athletes and their families a realistic perspective on what it takes to succeed in the space.
The initiative comes as esports cements its place in India’s mainstream sporting arena. Since gaining official recognition as a multi-sport discipline by the Government of India in December 2022, esports has been included in the Khelo India Youth Games, the Asian Youth Games 2025, and will feature in the upcoming Asian Games. Indian players are also set to compete at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, where the prize pool stands at a staggering $70 million (approx. INR 598 crore).
According to the FICCI-EY Media & Entertainment Report 2025, esports tournament participation in India crossed 2 million in 2024 and is projected to reach 2.8 million in 2025. Prize pools are expected to rise to INR 250 million, signaling rapid growth and competitive intensity.
