₹2 lakh grants to 100 women entrepreneurs under ‘Goa Beyond Beaches’ initiative
Panaji, 14th August 2025 – The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, has rolled out its Homestay and Bed & Breakfast Scheme with a strong focus on empowering women entrepreneurs in rural areas. An awareness and training programme, held at Novotel Goa Panaji, brought together existing and aspiring homestay owners to learn how to tap into the growing demand for authentic Goan experiences.
Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to taking tourism beyond coastal areas. “Women are the backbone of our homes and society. This scheme will empower them to become entrepreneurs while showcasing Goa’s culinary and cultural richness. One hundred women will receive ₹2 lakh each to start their own homestays, helping position Goa as the culinary capital of India,” he said.
The scheme, initially covering hinterland talukas such as Sattari, Dharbandora, Sanguem, Bicholim, Ponda, Quepem, and Canacona, aims to promote cultural heritage, local cuisine, and traditional hospitality. It will later be extended to urban areas.
Goa Tourism Director Shri Kedar Naik highlighted that the initiative is not only about destination promotion but also about strengthening the state’s economy by enabling rural communities to benefit directly from tourism.
The event featured presentations from partners including Airbnb, the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), and the IT Department, offering insights into marketing, operations, and digital tools. Veteran homestay owner Meeta Parmar from Gujarat shared her 25-year entrepreneurial journey, inspiring attendees.
As part of the felicitation ceremony, honours were presented to Janki Rama Samkar (Jungle Trails, Tambdi Surla) and Sonia Roy Saldanha (Cozy Homes, Ponda) for their contributions to rural tourism.
With financial assistance, training, and strong industry partnerships, the Homestay and Bed & Breakfast Scheme is set to transform Goa’s hinterlands into thriving tourism hubs, while fostering women’s entrepreneurship and preserving authentic Goan traditions.
