Vibrant celebration to showcase traditional boat parade, folk dances, live music and community spirit in Siolim
Siolim, 18th June 2025: The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, in association with the Siolim São João Traditional Boat Festival & Cultural Organisation, is all set to celebrate the Siolim São João 2025 festival on 24th June. This iconic monsoon festival will be held opposite St. Anthony’s Church, Siolim, and promises an afternoon of rich traditions, music, and community bonding.
This year’s festival will be graced by dignitaries including Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism; Shri Nilkant Halarnkar, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries; Dr. Ganesh C. Gaonkar, Chairman, GTDC; Smt. Delilah Lobo, MLA, Siolim; Shri Michael Lobo, MLA, Calangute; Shri Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS, Secretary Tourism; Shri Kedar A. Naik, Director of Tourism; and Shri Kuldeep Arolkar, Managing Director, GTDC.
Speaking about the event, Shri Kedar A. Naik, Director of Tourism, said, “Siolim São João reflects Goa’s vibrant monsoon culture and our deep-rooted traditions that unite communities. Through such festivals, we aim to promote community-driven tourism while preserving local identity and heritage.”
Highlights of the festival include:
The grand traditional boat parade with beautifully decorated floats gliding along the river.
A special boat featuring Goa Tourism’s monsoon mascot and a themed dance performance.
Traditional Goan folk dances, live music, and cultural competitions such as the Kopel contest.
The age-old Oze and Dhali traditions, alongside the symbolic leap into wells and streams, continuing the legacy of São João.
Energetic performances by Clay Jars youth band and a musical act by Johnny B Gud with Reza.
Goa Tourism’s participation underscores its commitment to preserving Goa’s intangible cultural heritage while creating memorable, immersive experiences for locals and tourists alike. The festival invites everyone to celebrate tradition and togetherness in the scenic charm of Siolim.
