Around 5,000 students to benefit; first smart classroom inaugurated in Lucknow
Lucknow, August 30, 2025: OPPO India, in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and UMMEED NGO, has launched a large-scale initiative to establish smart classrooms across 44 government primary schools in the state by March 2026. The programme will directly benefit approximately 5,000 students, offering them access to technology-driven learning environments designed to strengthen future-ready skills.

The first smart classroom under this initiative was inaugurated at Primary School, Bhaja Kheda, Lucknow, by Shri Deepak Kumar, Agriculture Production Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, Basic and Secondary Education, Uttar Pradesh. Senior officials, including Shri Awanish K Awasthi, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; Dr Roshan Jacob, IAS, Divisional Commissioner, Lucknow; Shri Rakesh Bhardwaj, Director, OPPO India; and representatives from UMMEED NGO, attended the event.
Speaking at the launch, Shri Deepak Kumar highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen education infrastructure under initiatives like Operation Kayakalp and NIPUN Bharat. “Smart Classes have played a major role in improving learning outcomes. With OPPO India’s support in establishing 44 smart classrooms, we are confident of further enhancing academic progress and creating opportunities for holistic learning,” he said.
As part of the initiative, smart classrooms will be set up across five districts—Lucknow (10 schools), Ayodhya (10 schools), Varanasi (10 schools), Gorakhpur (8 schools), and Agra (6 schools). The facilities will include computers, laptops, interactive smart TVs, dedicated digital classrooms, curated digital content, and essential resources for skill development. Over 80 teachers will also undergo training to effectively integrate technology into their teaching, while motivational sessions for students and parents will be organized to build a strong learning ecosystem.
Commenting on the partnership, Shri Rakesh Bhardwaj, Director, OPPO India, said, “At OPPO India, we see technology as a powerful enabler. Our collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Education Board and UMMEED NGO underscores our commitment to digital inclusion, skill-building, and enhanced learning outcomes. By creating smart classrooms, we aim to nurture students’ potential and strengthen their technical knowledge through interactive, project-based learning.”
The initiative is designed to go beyond academics by incorporating project-based, interactive modules that support both knowledge acquisition and practical life skills, ensuring holistic student development.
