Former eChampions League and Virtual Bundesliga winner advances from Group E with back-to-back victories; to compete in Round of 16 on August 8

National, August 8, 2025: S8UL Esports’ star EAFC professional, Jonas Wirth — better known as Jonny — has stormed into the playoffs of the FC Pro 25 World Championship at the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after an exceptional Group E performance.

The former eChampions League and Virtual Bundesliga champion clinched his qualification with consecutive 4-3 wins. In the Upper Bracket Semi-final, Jonny outplayed Italy’s Samuele Prestigiacomo (Samugamer_07), followed by another narrow victory over Argentina’s Facundo Cowen (Cowen) in the Upper Bracket Final, sealing his place in the Round of 16.
The FC Pro 25 World Championship features 32 of the world’s best EAFC athletes battling for a staggering $1.5 million (₹12.5 crore) prize pool. All playoff matches follow a single-elimination format, with Jonny set to compete in his Round of 16 clash later today.
“It feels amazing to qualify for the playoffs,” Jonny said. “Every match challenged me, but I stayed calm and played my game. I’m proud to represent S8UL and excited to give it my best in the Round of 16.”
Jonny qualified for EWC 2025 by finishing in the top four of the Virtual Bundesliga 2024–25 season, winning three of his four group stage matches. His impressive esports résumé includes lifting both the Virtual Bundesliga and eChampions League trophies last year.
His advancement adds to S8UL’s strong multi-title showing at EWC 2025. The organisation’s Apex Legends squad has already reached the Grand Finals, while Chess Grandmaster Nihal Sarin earned a top-8 finish via the Last Chance Qualifiers. In Tekken 8, S8UL’s Arja Gamoori (Sephiblack) and Nino Schwarz (Nino) are still in contention through the Last Chance Qualifiers.
As the only Indian team selected for the Esports World Cup Foundation’s prestigious Club Partner Program, S8UL continues to raise India’s profile on the global competitive gaming stage, reinforcing its status as a multi-title powerhouse.
