His efforts were rewarded when a bird inhabited his first nest
Mumbai: Sony BBC Earth, renowned for its thought-provoking initiatives and engaging content, is proud to announce Rakesh Khatri as its ‘Earth Champion’ for the month. Affectionately known as the Nest Man of India, Khatri has made significant contributions to bird conservation through his innovative use of eco-friendly materials to build sustainable nests. His initiative has provided safe habitats for over lakhs of birds in urban landscapes.
Driven by his dedication to providing birds with a home amidst urbanization and habitat loss, Rakesh conceived the idea of creating eco-friendly nests using Tetra packs, jute, or even scrap wood. Overcoming initial challenges and setbacks, Rakesh persevered. His efforts were rewarded when a bird inhabited his first nest. Since then, he has not only continued to build nests but also actively advocated bird conservation through talks, lessons, and workshops. As a result, so far over 7 lakh nests have been made and his next target is to build over 10 lakh nests.
Khatri has received the prestigious Limca Book of Records award. His achievements have been recognised worldwide with several accolades.
