New 50MP sensor delivers over 100dB dynamic range, superior low-light performance, and consistent image quality even while zooming
New Delhi, June 27, 2025: Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) has unveiled the LYT-828, a cutting-edge 50-megapixel CMOS image sensor under its LYTIA brand, engineered to deliver exceptional imaging performance for smartphones. Designed for both main and sub-cameras, the sensor introduces Hybrid Frame-HDR (HF-HDR) technology and sets a new benchmark for dynamic range—surpassing 100 dB, while significantly reducing highlight blowouts and blackout in high-contrast scenes.
As a successor to the LYT-818, the 1/1.28-type LYT-828 sensor retains the core strengths of its predecessor and adds advanced HDR processing by merging multiple HDR methods. HF-HDR fuses single-frame HDR (using dual conversion gain) with multi-frame short-exposure data at the application processor level. This hybrid approach ensures accurate color reproduction and high fidelity in both bright and dark areas—even during zoom operations.
The sensor also integrates Loss-Less Exposure (LLE), offering precise exposure control, improving light capture efficiency, and optimizing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Crucially, HF-HDR functionality is preserved during zoom, enabling consistent, high-quality imagery in every frame.
To enhance low-light performance, the LYT-828 includes Ultra-High Conversion Gain (UHCG) technology—a proprietary circuit that converts photodiode charge into voltage with high efficiency, significantly reducing random noise. This enables sharp, detailed, and less grainy images even in challenging lighting conditions.
Another key advantage of the LYT-828 is its low-power logic circuit design, allowing continuous HDR previews and video recording without excessive battery drain or overheating. This ensures users can capture and preview HDR content in real time—exactly as it appears on their smartphone screens.
Key Features of the Sony LYT-828 Sensor:
50MP resolution (1/1.28-type size)
Hybrid Frame-HDR technology with over 100 dB dynamic range
Loss-Less Exposure (LLE) for flexible exposure control
Ultra-High Conversion Gain (UHCG) for low-light clarity
Power-efficient design for continuous HDR preview and recording
Maintains full HDR functionality during zoom
With the LYT-828, Sony Semiconductor Solutions reaffirms its leadership in imaging innovation, empowering mobile manufacturers to deliver best-in-class photography and video capabilities for next-generation smartphones.
