Top judicial luminaries laud institution’s growth, stress ethics, technology, and service in legal education
Chennai, 25 September 2025:The School of Law at VELS Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS), Chennai, marked its 10th anniversary with a grand celebration at its Pallavaram campus, attended by eminent dignitaries from the Supreme Court of India and the Madras High Court.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Judge, Supreme Court of India, graced the event as Chief Guest, while Hon’ble Mr. Justice R. Mahadevan, Judge, Supreme Court of India, attended as Guest of Honour. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Manindra Mohan Srivastava, Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, joined as Distinguished Guest. Several Madras High Court judges, including Justices M. Nirmal Kumar, G.K. Ilanthiraiyan, D. Bharatha Chakravarthy, and R. Kalaimathi, were present as Special Guests.
Bar Council dignitaries Mr. S. Prabhakaran, Vice Chairman, Bar Council of India, and Mr. P.S. Amalraj, Chairman, Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, also marked their presence, along with Dr. S. Sivakumar, Senior Professor at the Indian Institute of Legal Studies and former Law Commission member.
The celebrations commenced with a welcome by Dr. Preethaa Ganesh, Vice President, Vels Group of Institutions. Chancellor Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, in his Presidential Address, lauded the School of Law’s journey from inception to prominence and encouraged students to embrace challenges as opportunities. Dean Dr. S. Ambika Kumari highlighted a decade of achievements in academics, research, and moot court excellence, with top-performing students recognized for their achievements.
Justice Kotiswar Singh, in his keynote, emphasized the transformative power of legal education in building a just society and called upon students to uphold integrity and fairness. Justice Mahadevan commended the institution’s rapid rise, urging law aspirants to adapt to global challenges and emerging areas like cyber law and IPR. Chief Justice Srivastava praised the alumni’s success and reminded students that law is a service to society. Other justices stressed the growing importance of mediation, advocacy, and ethical practice.
The year-long decennial celebrations began with the Tamil Moot Court Competition in September and will continue with a Law Fest in October, followed by conferences, seminars, workshops, and special lectures until March 2026.
