Tamil Nadu, India – August 5, 2025: VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art EV assembly plant at SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. This marks a significant milestone as the company’s first facility outside Vietnam, and reinforces its long-term commitment to India—the world’s third-largest automobile market.

Spanning 400 acres, the plant is VinFast’s third operational facility and its fifth global project, demonstrating the company’s bold vision for global expansion. The facility features cutting-edge automation and advanced production technology, including Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly Shop, Quality Control Center, and a Logistics Hub. It also includes an auxiliary cluster for local vendors, planned for future expansion.
At full capacity, the plant will produce up to 150,000 electric vehicles annually and create 3,000–3,500 direct jobs, with thousands more in indirect employment across the local supply chain. In its initial phase, the facility will assemble premium electric SUV models VF 6 and VF 7, with a starting capacity of 50,000 units per year.
The launch supports VinFast’s 2025 global sales target of 200,000 vehicles and its long-term goal of 1 million units per year by 2030. The Tamil Nadu facility is positioned to become the company’s largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, commented:
> “The VinFast Tamil Nadu plant marks a strategic milestone in our long-term commitment to the Indian market. It establishes a strong foundation for sustainable growth and positions us to offer high-quality, competitively priced electric vehicles to Indian consumers. We’re working closely with the Tamil Nadu government to transform this region into the EV capital of South Asia.”
VinFast’s India entry goes beyond manufacturing. The company is building a comprehensive EV ecosystem—from assembly and distribution to after-sales service and battery recycling. It has partnered with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure for nationwide after-sales support and has joined hands with BatX Energies to promote battery recovery and reuse, contributing to circular production and India’s green industrial transition.
By focusing on supply chain localization, technology transfer, and workforce upskilling, VinFast Tamil Nadu aims to contribute meaningfully to India’s sustainable mobility goals and enhance its position in the global EV landscape.
