With UGC approval secured, the new Greater Noida campus will offer globally relevant programs and support India’s innovation ecosystem through its acclaimed ‘Launch Pad’ incubator
New Delhi, August 1, 2025: Western Sydney University has received formal approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to establish a foreign branch campus in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Scheduled to launch in August 2026, the new India campus marks a pivotal expansion of the University’s global presence, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to educational excellence and innovation in the region.
The India campus will initially offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Business, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, with plans to expand into Data Science and Science. Designed in alignment with India’s skill development priorities, the curriculum will integrate an agriculture-focused stream to address sectoral needs and national goals.
For over two decades, India has been among the University’s top three source markets, with Indian students comprising 20% of its international student base. Currently, 1,300 Indian students are enrolled across its Australian campuses, pursuing industry-aligned, Australian-accredited programs with strong employability outcomes.
“The India campus reflects a major strategic commitment by the University to extend its international impact,” said Professor Jennifer Westacott AC, Chancellor of Western Sydney University. “We are deeply committed to delivering world-class education that matches India’s skill needs and fostering innovation, sustainability, and research-led solutions through collaboration with government, industry, and communities.”
A key highlight of the new campus is the introduction of Launch Pad, the University’s award-winning business and entrepreneurship incubator. The platform will offer startup education, training, and research commercialisation support, enabling students to gain hands-on innovation experience and career-ready skills. Launch Pad has a proven global record of supporting more than 1,000 startups and SMEs, making it a natural fit to catalyse India’s vibrant startup ecosystem.
Western Sydney University has cultivated deep, strategic partnerships across India, including with 30 State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), IITs, IISc, NABARD, and ICICI Bank. These collaborations have produced impactful outcomes—ranging from dual degree programs and training for over 350 students and scientists, to high-profile research initiatives such as the Centre of Excellence in Hi-Tech Protected Cropping with ICAR and the Australia-India Water Centre.
Vice-Chancellor and President, Distinguished Professor George Williams AO, stated, “The India campus will open new pathways for Indian students and communities. We are proud to bring our inclusive educational philosophy to India and contribute to the nation’s economic and social transformation.”
The campus will operate under the University’s ‘One University’ model, ensuring seamless cross-campus mobility, work-integrated learning, industry internships, and startup incubation. This approach will enhance student employability and prepare graduates for the global workforce.
The announcement was made at the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam 2025 in New Delhi, in the presence of Hon’ble Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, along with senior central and state government leaders and academic stakeholders.
The India campus joins Western Sydney University’s growing global network, which includes an established partnership with UEH University in Vietnam and the recently launched Surabaya campus in Indonesia. The University continues to be globally recognized, ranking No. 1 in the world for the fourth consecutive year in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for its contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
