Prasar Bharati’s New OTT Platform Set to Debut at IFFI 2024
Mumbai: Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, announced on Tuesday that Prasar Bharati plans to launch its OTT channel during the upcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI), scheduled from November 20 to 28 in Panaji, Goa. Speaking to reporters at Whistling Woods International in Mumbai, Jaju outlined that content creators would retain Intellectual Property (IP) rights, with a revenue-sharing model in place.
“This isn’t just about regular content; there will be live channels, a marketplace, and archival content from across the country,” Jaju explained. “We have around 2,000 titles in our archives that we’re planning to showcase.”
Additionally, Jaju revealed that the platform’s photo division will include 1-2 crore heritage photos. “OTT isn’t just limited to series; we aim to feature a range of archival content. We hope this approach will grow our subscriber base and elevate the platform’s popularity globally.”
Prasar Bharati’s family-friendly streaming service was first introduced in 2023. Despite the strong presence of global OTT giants like Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, Zee5, and Netflix in India, Prasar Bharati has decided to enter the OTT space, recognizing the demand for clear and family-oriented content. Initially, the platform was expected to launch in July of this year.
