Bengaluru, October 9, 2025: The Bangalore Diabetes and Eye Hospital, a collaboration between Shraddha Eye Care Trust and Bangalore Diabetic Club, organized a large-scale World Sight Day Walkathon to raise awareness about eye health. Hundreds of participants—including eye donors, healthcare professionals, students, volunteers, and community members—marched from Vidhana Soudha to the hospital’s Vasanth Nagar branch.

The walkathon was flagged off by Prof. Dr. Sri Ganesh, Founder Trustee of Shraddha Eye Care Trust and CMD of Nethradhama Super Speciality Eye Hospital, alongside Mr. Peeyush Jain, Trustee of Shri VP Gohel Memorial Trust. Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Sri Ganesh emphasized the urgency of regular eye care, noting that India has the largest population of people living with blindness, much of which is preventable through timely screening for conditions like diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and cataract.
Dr. Sushmitha Sri Ganesh, Chief Medical Officer of Bangalore Diabetes and Eye Hospital, highlighted the importance of collective responsibility, saying, “Vision is central to how we learn, work, and live with confidence. Awareness begins with participation, and today’s walkathon is a step toward embedding eye care in everyday conversations.”
Mr. Peeyush Jain added that healthcare initiatives succeed when hospitals, NGOs, philanthropists, and volunteers collaborate to ensure inclusive and sustainable eye care for all.
In line with this initiative, the hospital is conducting free eye screenings until October 16, 2025, at its Vasanth Nagar and Padmanabha Nagar branches.
This year’s World Sight Day theme, “Love Your Eyes,” underscores the importance of regular check-ups and accessible eye care, encouraging individuals and communities to prioritize vision health.
