Initiative to drive equity, visibility, and opportunity for women athletes through research, storytelling, and community-building
Mumbai, August 4, 2025: Capri Sports has launched The Sports Women (TSW), a bold new initiative aimed at transforming how women athletes in India are viewed, supported, and celebrated. Spearheaded by the Capri Sports Foundation, TSW is positioned to accelerate the momentum of women’s sports by building a future-ready ecosystem grounded in equity, purpose, and inclusion.

The launch comes at a time when Indian women athletes are making global headlines—from the rise of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) to historic wins in chess and the recent breakthrough by the Indian women’s ice hockey team. Despite these achievements, female athletes continue to face systemic challenges, ranging from lack of infrastructure and funding to social and cultural barriers.
TSW will take its first major step forward with the inaugural TSW Huddle on August 6, a curated gathering of athletes, investors, brands, and change-makers. Backed by KPMG as the knowledge partner, the event will unveil India’s first business-focused study on women’s sports, while sparking critical conversations around unlocking its untapped potential.
Rooted in three core pillars—Storytelling, Research, and Community—TSW is set to become a platform for driving systemic change. It will focus on amplifying voices, sharing untold stories, building networks, and unlocking new opportunities for all stakeholders involved in women’s sports, including fans, policymakers, and sponsors.
Jinisha Sharma, Director at Capri Sports, said, “Our women athletes have long delivered beyond expectations, often without the support and resources they truly deserve. The Sports Women is how our Foundation acts on that understanding—building platforms, sparking new opportunities, and bringing people together to create the future women’s sport deserves.”
Capri Sports has already established a strong presence in the women’s sports landscape, owning the UP Warriorz, a founding franchise of the WPL, and Warriorz FC, a Mumbai-based women’s football team. Through its CSR arm Beyond the Scorecard, the foundation has supported over 11 impactful programmes that have reached 10,000+ girls and underserved youth, using sport to drive access to education, nutrition, leadership, and visibility.
Notable campaigns have included menstrual literacy drives, inspirational comic books for young girls, and sustainable school supplies for tribal children—underscoring Capri Sports’ commitment to long-term societal change.
