Council directly engages with influencers to ensure compliance, transparency, and consumer trust in India’s fast-growing creator economy
Mumbai/Delhi, September 1, 2025: The Indian Influencer Governing Council (IIGC) has reaffirmed its commitment to building a credible and responsible creator economy by stepping up direct engagement with content creators. In the past month alone, the IIGC Taskforce reached out to more than 30 influencers whose content did not align with the Council’s Code of Standards for Influencers or with applicable legal requirements. Following these interventions, many creators updated or removed their content, underscoring the effectiveness of proactive guidance.
With influencer marketing in India projected to exceed ₹3,000 crore in 2025, expectations for transparency, accountability, and integrity are growing rapidly among consumers, brands, and regulators. Sectors such as health, wellness, and financial services, which have a significant consumer impact, are under increasing scrutiny. While necessary for consumer safety, these evolving compliance requirements can be challenging for small and regional creators to navigate.
The IIGC Taskforce supports these regulatory efforts by focusing on education, guidance, and early engagement, helping creators avoid violations before they occur.
Sahil Chopra, Chairman of IIGC, said:
> “We recognize the significant influence that creators have today, and the trust consumers place in their voices. It is up to us to make sure creators understand their responsibilities and offer them guidance and support. Education and open dialogue are the best avenues to ensure a safe, trustworthy environment.”
By providing a responsive, industry-driven system for tracking and resolving compliance concerns, the IIGC Taskforce enables creators to continue innovating while maintaining consumer trust. Its interventions mark a significant step toward professionalizing the creator economy and fostering responsible practices that benefit creators, brands, consumers, and regulators alike.
As the creator economy expands and its impact on consumer choices deepens, self-regulatory mechanisms like the IIGC will play a critical role in ensuring credibility and sustainability. The Council remains dedicated to refining its standards, strengthening outreach, and driving collaboration across stakeholders to safeguard the future of influencer marketing in India.
