
JioStar CEO to lead India’s digital media advocacy body, succeeds K. Madhavan at IDMIF
Mumbai, August 4, 2025: The Indian Digital Media Industry Foundation (IDMIF), a subsidiary of the Indian Broadcasting & Digital Foundation (IBDF), has appointed Kevin Vaz as its new President. The announcement was made following the Board of Directors meeting held on July 30, 2025.
Currently serving as CEO – Entertainment at JioStar, Kevin Vaz is one of India’s most respected media and entertainment veterans, with nearly 30 years of experience across broadcasting and digital media. He takes over from K. Madhavan, under whose tenure IDMIF solidified its position as a central voice for India’s rapidly growing digital media sector.
“I am honoured to take on this responsibility and build upon the strong foundation laid by Mr. Madhavan,” said Vaz. “As we move into 2025–26, my focus will be on fostering fair competition, innovation, and sustainable growth across India’s digital media landscape. Digital is a critical pillar of our industry, and with the right policy push and collaborative efforts, we can create a future-ready ecosystem that empowers creators and enhances audience experiences.”
IDMIF plays a key role in shaping India’s digital media regulatory landscape. Its independent self-regulatory body, the Digital Media Content Regulatory Council (DMCRC), was established on May 31, 2021, under the IT Rules, 2021. Registered with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), the DMCRC oversees non-news content published by member Online Curated Content Providers (OCCPs), ensuring responsible content practices while safeguarding creative freedom.
The DMCRC is chaired by Justice Mukul Mudgal (Retd.) and includes a panel of respected industry experts such as:

Nikkhil Advani – Producer & Director
Deepak Dhar – CEO, Banijay Asia
Tigmanshu Dhulia – Director, Actor & Screenwriter
It also includes OCCP representatives like Anil Lale (JioHotstar) and Ritesh Khos. a (SonyLIV).
Modelled after the acclaimed Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), the DMCRC plays a vital role in viewer protection and content governance. Justice Mudgal also previously chaired the BCCC, which has been praised by Indian courts for its effectiveness in self-regulation.
