Experience Indian entertainment like never before with ‘Waves
Prasar Bharati has launched its OTT platform, Waves, at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, introducing it with the tagline “Family entertainment ki nayi lehar.” The app, accessible on Android, iOS, and web, offers a diverse lineup of 65 channels in 10 languages, including 40 live ones, featuring news, entertainment, movies, TV shows, and games.
All Doordarshan (DD) and Akashvani channels are available on the platform, alongside entertainment networks like B4U, 9X Media, and Sab Group, as well as news channels such as India Today, News Nation, NDTV India, Republic, and ABP News.
Unveiled by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Waves was positioned as a platform that preserves and promotes Indian culture, heritage, and entertainment. “With Waves, we are not just launching an OTT platform; we are opening a new gateway for Indian content to reach every household, providing a blend of entertainment, education, and tradition,” Vaishnaw stated.
The platform integrates the government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to connect consumers directly with local sellers, fostering the growth of local businesses. Prasar Bharati Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal emphasized its unique offering of free-to-air and premium content, aiming to bring the ethos of public broadcasting to the digital age. “Waves is about bringing the essence of Prasar Bharati into the digital age, where everyone can access culture, knowledge, and entertainment at their fingertips,” he said.
Developed using technology from RailTel and supported by AWS for cloud and CDN services, Waves promises high-quality streaming with SD, HD, and 4K content. The platform is initially designed to support 10 million concurrent users, with scalability up to 100 million, ensuring accessibility even in remote parts of India.
